The Start of this College Lacrosse Season Represents Dreams Realized for Many Harlem Lacrosse Alums

Earlier this winter, more than 40 alums returned to Randall’s Island in New York City for our biggest ever alumni game. Many of these students will be taking the field as college lacrosse players this spring.

Chief Program Officer, Joel Censer, joined Harlem Lacrosse alums, Souleymane Ballo, James Greene, Jabril Belle-Walker and Mamadou Meite for a Hobart scrimmage this pre season.

The 2023 college lacrosse season has officially begun and players and coaches at all levels have started their quests towards championships, and memories that will last a lifetime. It’s an exciting time of year for the entire lacrosse community. This season also marks the first collegiate practices and games for many Harlem Lacrosse alums now competing at the next level. More than 50 Harlem Lacrosse alums are now playing college lacrosse and many of those students joined us just five or six years ago with little familiarity with the sport, let alone aspirations of playing in college some day.

The collective experience of these students is a powerful representation of the Harlem Lacrosse mission. By providing access, opportunity, and dedicated Program Directors who serve as coaches, tutors, mentors and counselors; Harlem Lacrosse has helped these students realize their dreams. Along the way, they have developed skills and relationships that will continue to serve them for years to come. The most important outcomes at Harlem Lacrosse are in fact, not about lacrosse, but seeing so many of our alums achieve the goals that they have set for themselves, is evidence that we can be drivers of impact for all participants.
