Harlem Lacrosse - Boston to Hold Second Summer Academy
For the second consecutive year, Harlem Lacrosse - Boston has been selected as a 5th Quarter Portfolio Partner by Boston Public Schools and will receive $31,000 to provide a comprehensive summer learning program. Through a comprehensive and competitive application process, Boston Public Schools and Boston After School & Beyond recognize exceptional summer learning programs and support the expansion of their programs with Summer Learning Academy grants. Through this partnership, Harlem Lacrosse will be able to hire teachers to provide learning opportunities and prevent students’ summer learning loss.
In addition to hiring teachers, Harlem Lacrosse will employ high school participants to provide academic and athletic support for the middle schoolers through the Counselor In Training (CIT) program. At the end of the summer, the middle schoolers and CITs will travel to Casco, Maine for Harlem Lacrosse’s third annual overnight camp at Camp Cedar.
Summer Academy is designed to engage students and help students continue to build academic, athletic, and social emotional skills. Hosted at Mildred Avenue K-8 School, the Harlem Lacrosse Summer Academy will include students from all of the programs in Boston. Students will participate in academic sessions, lacrosse training sessions, outdoor activities, and career exploration trips.
