A Time-out Is Called To Speak Up

A time-out is called to speak up:

Harlem Lacrosse exists to address the inequities that result from a structurally racist and oppressive system. The hateful and dangerous actions taken against black Americans in the past weeks, including the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and Breonna Taylor, call for a time-out from our efforts with the Harlem Lacrosse Classic. We pause to mourn the loss of black lives and stand in support of our black students, alumni, staff, communities, and partners against racism.

We must all do more to combat racism and make the world a more just and equitable one. The status quo is not acceptable. As an organization we commit to do more, to forge a new way forward, and to assume an anti-racist lens in all aspects of our work.

We hope you, our Harlem Lacrosse community, will take a time-out with us to engage in reflection and conversation, to commit to take action, and, in the words of President Obama, to “work together to create a ‘new normal’ in which the legacy of bigotry and unequal treatment no longer infects our institutions or our hearts.”
