Day in Duxbury

One incredible resource that Harlem Lacrosse is able to provide for their middle school programs are town partnerships.  Harlem Lacrosse has a variety of partnerships with towns with the mission of bringing together young people of diverse backgrounds with the goal of expanding their collective worldview.  Through a number of structured experiences and opportunities to connect, our town partnerships are consistently identified as a life-changing element of our program for HL student athletes and our host towns.  The trip to Duxbury that the Mckay boys and girls teams went on Saturday October 5th, was a perfect depiction of one specific town partnership that has particularly accomplished of this mission.

On the beautiful sunny morning of October 5th the Mckay boys and girls teams hopped on a bus with their coaches and made their way to Duxbury High School to meet up with their town partner, Duxbury youth and high school lacrosse.   Both high school players and coaches structured a lacrosse clinic filled with engaging stations including drills teaching defense, shooting, dodging, and passing. A crowd favorite was steal bacon where teams battled for ground balls and earned points for their team.  After learning new skills with new drills the girls got to bond with their Duxbury partners while enjoying lunch and yard games. By the end of lunch girls were sharing snapchat and Tik Tok usernames. Luckily the day did not end there. Duxbury also hosted the boys and girls team at the beach with a big bonfire to build smores.  Although to some it may have just been a sweet treat, many of Mckay students 1) did not know what a smores was or 2) have never had a smores before. It goes to show that these experiences are largely impactful for the students without having to be big or showy.

A large thank you goes out to Duxbury Lacrosse including youth player’s parents for the gear, smores, and amazing day in Duxbury.  Mckay looks forward to many more combined experiences.
