Volunteer Spotlight: Peter

"I see Harlem Lacrosse's impact mostly through the simple values the program instills in the students: work hard, stay humble, do well in school, look people in the eye, shake their hand. The two students I tutor had consistently performed poorly in math before HL and were extremely timid in solving problems. After a few months of being in the tutoring program, there was a incredible day when we all realized that they turned the corner and felt sincere joy when solving a math problem on their own. We had our own little "Rocky" montage celebration moment in an empty classroom on the third floor of Frederick Douglass Academy at 8pm on a Tuesday night..."
