Annual Overnight with Siena College
In mid April, the boys from PS 149 The Sojourner Truth School made their third annual trip to Siena College for a weekend overnight experience. The boys were hosted by families of the local Shaker Bison club team, coming together for two days of lacrosse, enrichment and team building.
The HL boys arrived on Saturday morning, taking in a quick tour of the Siena Campus before heading down to the field. There, they met up with their host families and friends from Shaker, and together the two teams sat to cheer on the Siena Saints men's lacrosse team to a 20-18 victory over NJIT in a high scoring non-conference contest.
Later Saturday afternoon, both teams continued the fun at a group dinner hosted by one of the local families. More than 40 boys attended the party, where mini-lax and pick-up basketball basketball games were interrupted only by needs to refuel with pizza and gatorade. After the party, the boys went back with their "host families" where they spent the night watching movies, making s'mores, and playing plenty of Fortnite!
On Sunday Morning, the groups reconvened at nearby Shaker High School, where they were treated to a clinic by members of the Siena College men's team. After the clinic, the boys from were mixed into teams and competed in a friendly round-robin style tournament. Each game ended with handshakes and hugs, a demonstration of sportsmanship and mutual respect that was built from the time spent together over the weekend.
Huge thank you's to Katie Chudzinski, the Shaker Lacrosse coaches and parents, and the Siena Lacrosse team for all the help and support during the weekend. Year 3 was the best one yet. We can't wait to see what year 4 has in store in 2020!
