Promise Academy Heads to Duke

Harlem Lacrosse student-athletes from Promise Academy II trekked 12 hours down to Tobacco Road to take part in an unforgettable trip to Duke University

Harlem Lacrosse boys experienced the day in the life of a Duke student-athlete as they toured the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke where they were sat in on a faculty lecture and were able to study different animals and plants. They later received a full tour of the school which included including seeing Krzyzewskiville and Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The players also met with Duke Lacrosse coaches and players including Coach Danowski who treated HLLers to lunch and a film session. While touring the lacrosse facilities, the students had an impromptu Q + A with star Blue Devils midfielder Myles Jones. Afterwards, they watched the Blue Devils practice and met and scrimmaged with a Raleigh, N.C.-based lacrosse club.

There was significant amount of time spent on career exploration as the Harlem Lacrosse boys visited American Underground where they were able to speak to local entrepreneur Hassan Pinto about his experience starting his own company. They also toured Durham's "Black Wall Street" - a longtime hub of African-American led financial service companies.

A huge thanks to everyone who donated to support the trip as well as Mike Fidgeon, Harlem Lacrosse Executive Board Member Evan Vosburgh, Rick Vosburgh Hassan Pinto, Dean Alan Townsend of the Nicholas School, Duke Provost Sally Kornbluth, the Raleigh Mavericks and the entire Duke Lacrosse community.
