FDA HS Boys win 2018 PSAL Championship!!

...and that's a wrap!!!

The Frederick Douglas Academy HS Boys are PSAL Champions for the 2nd year in a row with a 15-12 victory yesterday over Hunter College!!!

The Lions demonstrated tremendous resiliency in coming back from a 9-5 deficit early in the third quarter. Junior goalie Kebin Aguilar made key saves to keep the game close early on, and carried his high level of play through to the second half. Mamadou Meite stepped up at the face-off X, generating transition opportunities and taking control of the possession battle, and added four goals on the day, capping off a stellar career at FDA filled with big plays in big moments. Jyasi Watson received the game's Most Valuable Player award, contributing five goals and a beautiful assist to Meite on a transition play that helped FDA take control of the game. Junior attackman Peter Rodriguez scored twice during FDA's comeback stretch and added an assist to sophomore Mame Diba to help close out the victory. Defensemen Atari Felton, Joquan Graham, and Eniola Arogundade held Hunter's strong attack unit in check through the critical moments down the stretch. The unsung hero of the day was Mohamed Kourouma, who led the game in ground balls and caused turnovers. Coach June Ronchetti claimed her second championship trophy along with captains Clifford Pollard, Davon Johnson, and Meite, who carried the way throughout the day with their poise and leadership.
