Sean Fox Memorial Scholarship

Sean Fox was the Ultimate Statesman. A Dean’s List graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature, Sean was a key contributor on five of Hobart’s 16 National Champion lacrosse teams: four as a player and one as an assistant coach. Sean took great pride in being a consummate teammate. His passion for and lifelong dedication to the sport transcended his collegiate experience into much of his career, lifelong friendships, youth coaching and mentoring, and into his community at large. Sean attributed much of his success in life to the lessons learned on the lacrosse field, and the relationships and connections he made with his teammates, and to his mentor, legendary Hobart Coach Dave Urick.

Sean positively impacted many people throughout his life. We are honored to continue his teachings and good deeds by helping today’s student-athletes access higher education through the Sean Fox Memorial Scholarship program.

Scholarship recipients are chosen annually based upon their financial need, selfless dedication to their team, their hard work in the classroom and their genuine commitment to their community. The winners will be selected by a Harlem Lacrosse committee which will include Sean’s wife Kristin, and his sons Connor and Trevor.

In its first year, scholarship awards were granted to Harlem Lacrosse alumni and HWS students Indiah, Leah and Richard.. All three were long-time participants in the Harlem Lacrosse-NY program and have been involved since middle school. Indiah is a freshman who is planning on majoring in biology and becoming a surgeon. Leah is a sophomore who plans to declare as a sociology major. Richard is a junior anthropology major who hopes to spend his next semester abroad in Japan.

Thank you for you for helping to grow and sustain the Sean Fox Scholarship program so that more students can receive this support.

Last year the Sean Fox Memorial Scholarship covered my fall semester costs which helped my mom and I tremendously. It took a lot of weight off of her shoulders... making it much easier to focus on my studies and finish strong.

My proudest accomplishment this past year...was hosting two students from Japan for a week in the fall. My favorite part of hosting them was the cultural exchange. We taught each other slang, common phrases, and social norms of our respective cultures and had a lot of fun doing so. We had a great time and plan on meeting up and doing it all again while I am in Japan this fall for my semester abroad.
